What interests me most as a filmmaker is not whether a belief can be proven, but why it matters to the people who hold it. That curiosity is what led me to make this film, where faith, identity, and the search for meaning become part of everyday life.
When I met Rafael Ulloa, I realized that my interest was not in the extraordinary stories he shared, but in the people whose lives had been shaped by them. As I spent time with Rafael and the Rahma Uruguay community, I realized the film was not about proving or disproving extraordinary experiences. It was about understanding how faith shapes the way people interpret reality, creates a sense of belonging, and gives purpose to everyday life.
My intention was never to judge or validate the beliefs portrayed in the film. Instead, I wanted to create a space where the audience could enter this world without prejudice, sharing the doubts, convictions, and humanity of its protagonists. Rather than seeking answers, I was interested in listening, observing, and allowing the complexity of these experiences to unfold naturally.
As a filmmaker, I believe documentary cinema should invite reflection rather than impose conclusions. With Rahma: Between Faith & Ideology, I hope audiences leave not with certainty, but with new questions about belief, identity, and the universal human need to find meaning.
